Blitz!
Blitz! explores the cultural legacy of the Blitz club in 1980s London, charting its influence on music, fashion, art, and design that shaped a generation. Designed by PLAID for the Design Museum, the exhibition immerses visitors in the language and energy of the era.
Working in close collaboration with PLAID and tDM exhibition team, we translated the exhibition design into a crafted spatial environment. Through detailed coordination and technical development, we ensured the design intent was realised consistently across the gallery, balancing visual impact with practical requirements.
As part of the fabrication scope, we delivered a series of vitrines and showcases designed to present garments, accessories, graphic works, and archival material throughout the exhibition. These elements were custom-built and finished in a curated palette of colours that reference the bold, expressive identity of the Blitz era, reinforcing the exhibition’s atmosphere while allowing the objects to remain the focal point.
Large walls and plinths helped structure the exhibition layout and guide visitors through its thematic sections. These elements support the curatorial narrative by creating spatial rhythm and moments of focus, while accommodating interpretive graphics and object displays and contributing to intuitive wayfinding across the gallery.
Our fabrication work underpins the exhibition’s immersive experience, providing a robust and well-crafted framework that supports PLAID’s design vision and enables visitors to engage fully with the cultural significance and lasting influence of the Blitz club.
