Beatriz González
Working in collaboration with Unknown Works and the Barbican team, we delivered the fabrication and installation for Beatriz González, the UK’s first major retrospective of the Colombian artist. The exhibition explored the potential of paper as an architectural material, with display plinths, vitrines and a series of monolithic benches forming a key part of the exhibition design.
Central to the project were four sculptural benches fabricated from layered and laminated Honext recycled paper panels. Produced as solid blocks, each bench was digitally machined before being carefully hand finished, requiring a considered approach to preserve the integrity of the material while achieving the precision and durability demanded by the high profile exhibition.
Alongside the benches, we fabricated a range of bespoke display elements that supported Unknown Works' paper led approach to the exhibition design. Working closely with the design team and the Barbican, our role focused on translating an ambitious material concept into robust, museum quality objects that balanced technical performance with the visual lightness of the design.
The project exemplifies our collaborative approach to exhibition fabrication, combining digital manufacturing, skilled craftsmanship and close coordination with designers and curators to realise an exhibition environment where material innovation and precision making play an integral role in the visitor experience.
