Extruded Form Bench

Designed in response to the trend of simplifying design and forms not for the sake of aesthetics but to reduce the cost of manufacture, this piece belies the sheer hard work and elbow grease required to man-make this form from solid pieces of timber.

What makes the bench special is that while this shape would lend itself to mass production in plastics or composite materials, the exact opposite is the case when working in solid wood, due to the many separate pieces, complicated mitres on the bends, the unconventionally aligned grain direction and many curved and undulating surfaces which require uniform flushing and sanding to achieve a finish which looks as if it were more likely created by machine, not man.

This one of a kind piece is hand made in solid American oak with danish oil finish.
